Boar tour
This tour takes place in the hills south and east of Tajikistan’s capital Dushanbe. Battue hunts and hunts from raised hiding spots are conducted on wild boars. The low mountain range between Dushanbe and Kulyab, which is up to 2000 m above sea level, offers an ideal habitat for wild boars. The mild winters with little snow, abundant food supply and virtually no hunting pressure from the predominantly Muslim population, are the basis for a very large wild boar population. Further the trophy quality is of a magnificent quality due to the high proportion of old and capital boars.
The hunt takes place at an altitude between 1200 and 1700 metres, in the mountains both in summer and winter. In summer the tour comprises mainly of hunting from a raised hiding spot or track and trail hunting by moonlight. During winter the track and trailing hunt is done by daylight or a battue hunt is done. On average, the boar tusks are around 21 - 23 cm, with the older boar tusk lengths up to 26 cm and above can be expected.
The best time for the summer-raised hiding place hunting tour is in June. At this time of the year the fruits of the mulberry-tree are falling and are much loved by the sows. A Tajik once told our tour guide that a sow came through his farming property fence directly, not even bothered by the barking of his dogs. This is a perfect example of this time of the year being ideal for hunting from a raised hiding spot.
The best time for the boar hunting tours is from late November to late February. It is important that the hunter is fit and has some experience to ensure success. Swiss hunters who have been on this tour, have said it is as difficult as hunting for chamois (a goat-antelope species found in Switzerland) without the hard rock crossings. There can also be a daily altitude change of up to 800 m that needs to be taken into consideration. The bigger boars are can be located either that the edges of the snow or on the snow-covered slopes of the northern sides of the mountains. Those hunters that are good walkers and quick shooters have some wonderful opportunities to shoot wild boar.
We use long-caliber 300 WM, etc bolt action guns. We do not use triplets and combination arms. The accommodation is shared and sleeping bags are a must. Hunting groups usually consist of no more than five people. Please ring or email us today to find out more (see our contact section).
